Please read these Terms carefully. By accessing, browsing or otherwise using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood them and that you agree to be bound by them, together with our Legal Notice, our Privacy Policy and our Copyright and DMCA Policy, which form part of these Terms. 1. The Society
1.1. The Society is an institution of national public character, non-profit and non-partisan, which forms part of the Sociedad Bolivariana de Venezuela. 1.2. The Site is the official website of the Society. It is edited by the Society’s Coordination of Editions and Publications (Coordinación de Ediciones y Publicaciones). The full identification of the Society appears in the Legal Notice.
2. Acceptance and eligibility

2.2. The Site is intended for a general audience interested in history, culture and the thought of the Liberator Simón Bolívar. If you are a minor under the law of your place of residence, you may use the interactive features of the Site only with the involvement of a parent, guardian or teacher.
2.3. If you use the Site on behalf of a school, company or other organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf.
3. Nature of the content
3.1. The content of the Site is published for educational, historical, cultural and informational purposes. The Society endeavours to rely on verifiable sources and to cite them. However, the content does not constitute legal, financial, medical or any other professional advice.
3.2. Historical documents, statutes and other texts reproduced on the Site are offered for study and reference. They are not official publications for legal purposes. For legal purposes, please consult the official sources, including the Gaceta Oficial of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
3.3. Opinions expressed in signed essays or third-party contributions are those of their authors and do not necessarily reflect the institutional position of the Society.
4. Intellectual property
4.1. Ownership. Unless otherwise indicated, all content of the Site — including texts, translations, introductions and notes, the selection and arrangement of materials, photographs, audio narrations, educational games and activities, graphic design, page layout and software code (together, the “Content”) — belongs to the Society or is used by it under licence. The Content is protected by the Ley sobre el Derecho de Autor of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, by the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works and by the other intellectual property laws and treaties that apply. © Sociedad Bolivariana del Estado Zulia. All rights reserved.
4.2. Editorial works. Texts signed by the “Redacción SBZ” (SBZ Editorial Team) are published under the authority of the Society, which holds or administers the rights in them.
4.3. Third-party materials. Images, documents and other materials from third parties, such as Wikimedia Commons, remain subject to their own licences or to the public domain, as indicated in the corresponding credits. These Terms grant no right over third-party materials beyond what their own licences allow. Works in the public domain remain in the public domain. The Society’s own translations, introductions, notes, selection and presentation of such works are protected to the extent permitted by law.
4.4. Name and symbols. The name “Sociedad Bolivariana del Estado Zulia”, the institutional symbols of the Sociedad Bolivariana de Venezuela — its Coat of Arms, Flag, Hymn and the Effigy of the Liberator, as described in Articles 83 to 87 of the Estatuto General — and the visual identity of the Site are distinctive signs of the institution. They may not be used in any way that suggests affiliation with, sponsorship by or endorsement of the Society, or the official character of any person, publication or activity, without the Society’s prior written authorization. The Coat of Arms may be used to illustrate news about the Society, without alteration and with attribution, as indicated in the Press Room.
5. Permitted uses
Subject to these Terms, you may:
- access and read the Content for your personal, non-commercial use;
- quote brief fragments of the Content in your own original works for purposes of commentary, criticism, teaching, research or news reporting, provided that you clearly state the name of the Society and the title of the source and include a link to the original page, in accordance with Article 46 of the Ley sobre el Derecho de Autor;
- link to any page of the Site, provided that the link does not suggest an affiliation or endorsement that does not exist;
- print or project individual articles for non-commercial classroom use, without altering them and with credit to the source; and
- use the materials of the Press Room that are expressly offered for reuse, under the conditions stated there.
Any other use of the Content requires the prior written authorization of the Society.
6. Prohibited uses
6.1. You must not:
- reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, license, adapt, translate for publication or communicate to the public all or a substantial part of any Content, in any medium, without our prior written authorization;
- remove, alter or obscure any copyright notice, credit, attribution or other proprietary notice;
- frame or mirror the Site, or present its Content as your own or as part of another website or publication;
- use the name, symbols or visual identity of the Society to impersonate it, to create confusion about the origin of any content, or to claim falsely any membership, office or affiliation;
- access or attempt to access non-public areas of the Site or of its hosting systems, interfere with their security or operation, introduce malicious code, or engage in any conduct punishable under the Ley Especial contra los Delitos Informáticos or similar laws;
- use robots, scrapers or other automated means to copy Content for republication, or in a way that places an unreasonable load on the Site; or
- use the Site for any unlawful, defamatory, abusive, discriminatory or fraudulent purpose.
6.2. Search engines and artificial-intelligence services. Search engines and artificial-intelligence services may crawl and index the Site in accordance with our robots.txt file, and may display brief excerpts, summaries and citations, provided that they attribute the content to the Society and, where technically possible, link to the original page. This permission does not authorize the republication of substantial portions of the Content.
7. User contributions
7.1. Where the Site allows comments or messages, you are solely responsible for what you submit. Contributions must be respectful, lawful and relevant, and must not infringe the rights of others.
7.2. By publishing a comment, you grant the Society a non-exclusive, royalty-free and worldwide licence to publish, reproduce, moderate and archive it on the Site together with the related content.
7.3. The Society may, at its sole discretion and without notice, refuse, shorten or remove any contribution that breaches these Terms or is not appropriate for an institutional website.
7.4. Personal data contained in contributions are processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
8. Third-party links, services and advertising
8.1. The Site may contain links to third-party websites and may embed services provided by third parties, such as maps, automatic translation or encyclopaedic content. The Society does not control those websites or services and is not responsible for them. Their use is governed by their own terms and policies.
8.2. The Site may display advertising served by Google AdSense. Advertisements are separated from editorial content and identified as advertising. Their display does not imply that the Society endorses the products, services or opinions advertised, and advertisers have no influence over our editorial content.
9. Corrections and complaints
We strive for accuracy. If you believe that any Content contains an error, or that it infringes your rights, please write to us through our contact page. We will review the matter and, where appropriate, correct or remove the Content. Copyright complaints follow the procedure described in our Copyright and DMCA Policy.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Site and the Content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, availability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. The Society does not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will be free of viruses or other harmful components.
11. Limitation of liability
11.1. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, neither the Society nor the members of its Board of Directors, its members, collaborators or volunteers shall be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, income or reputation, arising out of or in connection with the use of the Site or the inability to use it, or with reliance on any information published on it.
11.2. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence.
12. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Society, the members of its Board of Directors, its members and collaborators against any claim, damage, loss or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your breach of these Terms or from your infringement of the rights of any third party.
13. Right of admission and suspension
The Society reserves the right of admission. It may, at any time and without prior notice, restrict, suspend or block access to the Site or to any of its interactive features for any person who breaches these Terms or the law.
14. Changes to the Site and to these Terms
The Society may modify the Site and these Terms at any time. The updated Terms will be published on this page with a new date and will apply from that date. If you continue to use the Site after an update, you accept the updated Terms.
15. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Any dispute arising out of or relating to the Site or to these Terms shall be submitted to the competent courts of the city of Maracaibo, State of Zulia, Venezuela. This clause does not deprive consumers of the protection of any mandatory rules of the law of their country of residence.
16. Language
These Terms are drafted in English. A Spanish version is offered on this page for convenience. In the event of any discrepancy between the two versions, the English version shall prevail. Automatic translations produced by the language selector of the Site or by third-party tools are offered for convenience only and have no legal effect.
